Activity 1 The following video shows two beakers with water of 150 mL. The first beaker is filled with cold water, and the second beaker with hot water. The temperatures of both cups of water are measured with temperature sensors. Video1-1: One cup of cold water and one cup of hot water Question 1-1 (2 points): Record the temperature of each cup of water. Prediction 1-1: Predict the temperature of the water when the two cups are combined. The video below shows mixing of two cups of water in a larger beaker. The temperature of the mixture was measured after stirring the mixture slightly. Video1-2: Mixing one cup of cold water and one cup of hot water Question 1-2 (2 points): record the temperature of the mixture. Question 1-3 (2 points): Did the measured temperature of the mbcture of water agree with your prediction? Explain what may have caused the difference.
Activity 2 In the following video, two beakers are filled with cold water, and the third beaker with hot water. The temperatures of the cups of water are measured with temperature sensors. Video2-1: Two cups of cold water and one cup of hot water Question 2-1 (2 points): Record the temperature of each cup of water. Prediction 2-1: Predict the temperature of the water when the three cups are combined. In the following video, the three cups of water were poured into a larger beaker. The temperature of the mixture was measured after stirring the mixture slightly. Video2-2: Mixing two cups of cold water and one cup of hot water Question 2-2 (2 points): record the temperature of the mixture. Question 2-3 (2 points): Which of the water samples (cold or hot) changed more when they were mixed? Question 2-4 (2 points): Did the measured temperature of the mixture of water agree with your prediction? Explain what may have caused the difference.
Activity 3 In the following video, one beaker is filled with cold water, and the other two beakers with hot water. The temperatures of the cups of water are measured with temperature sensors. Video3.1: One cup of cold water and two cups of hot water Question 3-1 (2. points): Record the temperature of each cup of water. Prediction 3-1: Predict the temperature of the water when the three cups are combined. In the following video, the three cups of water were poured into a larger beaker. The temperature of the mixture was measured after stirring the mixture slightly. Vide03-2: One cup of cold water and two cups of hot water Question 3-2 (2 points): record the temperature of the mixture. Question 3-3 (2 points): Which of the water samples (cold or hot) changed more when they were mixed? Question 3−4 (2 points): Did the measured temperature of the mixture of water agree with your prediction? Explain what may have caused the difference| Question 3-5 (2 points): Based on Activities 1−3, what determines whether the final temperature of a mixture of two amounts of water will be closer to the initial cooler or warmer water? Explain.
