A multistage counter-current absorber is designed to recoversolute A from a nitrogen gas stream. The inlet gas stream has aflow rate and a solute concentration of 157 kmol/h and 0.94 mol%,respectively. It is desired to reduce the solute concentration ofthe outlet gas stream to 0.07 mol%. A pure liquid solvent streamwith an inlet flow rate of 447 kmol/h is used to absorb solute A.This operation is performed at 313 K and 1.5 bar, while theequilibrium relation of solute A in gas-liquid is yA =1.96xA.
1) Determine the total exit liquid flow (LN), thetotal exit gas flow (V1), and the solute concentrationin exit liquid (xAN).
2) Estimate the number of theoretical stages needed in thisabsorber using the graphical method.
