A reactor operates at 10 % conversion and produces NH3 from N2 and H2. A perfect separator recovers the unreacted N2 and H2 for recycle. All of the ammonia is recovered in a pure product stream. The process feed is in stoichiometric proportion, and you may presume that hydrogen and nitrogen remain in stoichiometric proportion throughout the process.
Write the balanced reaction equation.
What is the overall process conversion (this requires no calculation ..)
What is the flow rate ratio of the recycle stream to the feed stream? (HINT: start with a basis of 100 mol feed to the reactor itself)
Repeat b) and c) if the recycle stream contains 5% of the product NH3 fed to it along with all of the N2 and H2. (don’t make this hard .. use the same hint as in part c) and call the NH3 in the reactor feed n1..then work the simple material balances to solve for n1. Part b ) still requires no calculation..
