Angle Section in tension (a) A single angle section is used as a tension member in a roof truss. It is connected to gusset plates at each end by fillet welds. Use the member capacity tables of your P363 to select a suitable angle in S275 steel, if the tension due to Ultimate Limit State factored loads is 180kN. [5 marks] (b) Design a suitable fillet weld detail according to the requirements of Eurocode 3. You may NOT use the pink pages of P363 to assist in your weld design, but should use the appropriate weld strength clauses of EN1993-1-1 (Eurocode 3) instead. [10 marks]
