6. Welded bracket The welded bracket shown on figure Q6 is to carry a load of 180kN at an eccentricity to the centreline of the column of 300 mm. The column is a 305×305×97 Universal Column and both it and the 15 mm thick bracket are in S275 steel. If the bracket is to have a maximum depth of 300 mm, and the weld group is to consist of two 270 mm long horizontal welds on the top and bottom edges of the bracket, symmetric about the column's centre line, as shown on the figure, choose a suitable size of fillet welds to carry the bracket load. You are not required to, but you may use the weld capacities in the Member Capacities tables in P363 to use weld strengths consistent with the rules of Eurocode 3. [15 marks]
