A. During winter season, you want to maintain inside of yourhouse at 25 oC. You then decided to install a heat pump for this. With this heat pump, you then measure the rate of heat loss to thesurrounding, that is at a rate of 65,000 kJ/h. You also find thatthe COP of the heat pump is 3.5. With this scenario:
i. Determine the power input to the heat pump, in kW! (4marks)
ii. If the heat pump is used for 12 hours per day, andelectricity cost is $0.15/kWh, determine how much is theelectricity bill you need to pay monthly! (use 1 month = 30 days).(2 marks)
B. In a research laboratory, a researcher said that he designs arefrigerator that can remove 37,500 kJ of heat from therefrigerated space by only using 3.5 kW of power. He claims thathis results to a constant temperature of -27oC inside therefrigerator, while conducting the experiment at in a room with27oC of ambient. He also claims that he conducted the experimentfor 25 mins. As a mechanical engineer, you feel the claim of theresearcher above needs to be further validated. Prove if the claimabove is valid/invalid! (8 marks)
