1.1 In your own words, describe the main difference between radiation, convection and conduction. 1.2 Consider a person standing in a room maintained at 22∘C at all times. The inner surfaces of the walls, floors, and the ceiling of the house are observed to be at an average temperature of 8∘C in winter and 28∘C in summer. Take ε=0.95 for the person. 1.2.1 Name the possible heat transfer mechanism(s) from the person to the room. 1.2.2 Determine the rate of radiation heat transfer between this person and the surrounding surfaces during summer and winter if the exposed surface area and the average outer surface temperature of the person are 1.3 m2 and 35∘C, respectively. Take ε=0.95 for the person. 1.2.3 If a fan is installed in the room during the summer, determine the convection heat transfer coefficient needed to maintain the same heat transfer rate from the person during summer as in winter.
