Derive an expression for the reaction between the gates as R=T=F/(2sinα), where T is the thrust exerted by the other gate and a is the inclination of the lock gate with the normal to the side of the lock. A circular plate of diameter 400 mm is placed vertically in water in such a way that the centre of plate is 2 m below the free surface of water. Determine the total pressure and the position of centre of pressure.
