Include a diagram, please.
1. You have accidentally dropped a piece of scientific equipment in murky, turbulent, and contaminated river water. You dropped it from a vertical retaining wall. Using a stick, you find the depth of the water at the wall to be 2.1 m, and you also have an estimate of how far it could have drifted from the vertical retaining wall. You need to devise a way to search for it without swimming. You and your team manage to mount a bright, focused searchlight pointing down at a fixed angle of 27° relative to the horizontal surface of the water. You also rig a jack with which you can change the vertical position of the light from 0.5 to 2 m high. You realize you can both search for the equipment and estimate its distance from the wall using this system, in order to decide how best to retrieve it. What is the range of horizontal distances from the bottom of the wall your system can search underwater relative to the bottom of the retaining wall? Assume that the bottom of the river is flat and so has a constant depth of 2.1 m.
