(a)/ When researching ground water it is often important to know the characteristics of the soil at a certain site. Many of these characteristics, such as porosity, are at least partially dependent upon the grain size. The diameter of individual grains of soil can be measured. Here are the diameters (in mm) of 25 randomly selected grains from an area. 1.24, 1.36, 1.28, 1.35, 1.43, 1.41, 1.40, 1.29, 1.27, 1.31, 1.33, 1.53, 1.26, 1.28, 1.25, 1.21, 1.30, 1.44, 1.49, 1.48, 153, 1.59, 1.37, 1.39, 1.42 Arrange the data through a proper method of tabulation and hence find the standard V deviation from your own table and explain it. (b) Use the table that you have already made from the question 5(a) to locate the mode in a graph for the diameters of the grains of soil.
