Please check the design of the following unreinforced masonry
wall to see if it is adequate:
A 14 ft simply supported wall (vertically spanning) that is
built using 8” medium weight CMU and Type N Masonry
Cement Mortar (only face-shell bedding). The wall is resisting a
factored gravity dead load of 5000 lb/ft at
the top of the wall with an eccentricity of e = 0.5”. Only check
the wall at the top of the wall, which you can
ignore the self-weight.
(use load combination of 1.4D and magnify the moment using TMS
402 Section 9.2.4.3)
