Problem 1: Figure MEC - 124, shows a uniform cylinder with a diameter of 1.5 m supported by a bar AB with negligible weight and a cable BC with a diameter of 12 mm. Neglect friction 1. Determine the tensile stress in the cable BC if the cylinder has a mass of 500 kg. 2. Determine the required diameter of the pin at A if it has an allowable shear stress of 50 MPa and the cylinder has a mass of 500 kg. Pin at A is in double shear. 3. Determine the weight of the heaviest cylinder that can be supported if the permissible tensile stress of cable BC is 60 MPa and the maximum shear stress of the pin at A is 75 MPa Cable BC has a diameter of 10 mm and the pin at A has a diameter of 12 mm in single shear.
