(1.5 marks) (b) Based on the energy requirement, what is the classification of activated sludge, nitrifying bacteria (equations 1-1 and 1-2) and denitrifying bacteria (equation 2)? Briefly explain your answer. Nitrification: NH4 +1.502 NO2 + 2H+ + H20 NO2 + 0.502 + NO3 (1-1) (1-2) Denitrification: NO3+ + organic matter → N2 + CO2 + H2O (2) (6 marks)
