Experiment #2: Dihybrid Cross,11.3 12 pts
Aim: to study the result obtained from a dihybrid cross(predict the F1 generation)
KEY:
Traits: Purple (R)
1. Color of kernel
Yellow (r)
Starchy smooth (S)
2. Texture of kernel
Sweet wrinkled (s)
**Both parents: Heterozygous for the two traits (genotype ofboth parents is purple and starchy smooth)
RrSs x RrSs (Parents)
1. Write the paternal and maternal gametes
**Note: every gamete must have an allele for both traits, eg RS,Rs, rS or rs
2. Draw the Punnett square with the gametes from the mother(maternal) along one side of the square and the gametes from thefather along the other side
3. Fill the squares with possible genotypes of F1 generation
4. Predict the outcome of the F1 generation of dihybrid cross:use the key provided to determine how many of the offspringare:
Purple and starchy smooth -------------
Purple and sweet wrinkled -------------
Yellow and starchy smooth -------------
Yellow and sweet wrinkled -------------
