Each day officers at the Athens Police Dept. (APD) work two 6-hour shifts chosen from: shift #1: 12 am to 6 am; shift #2: 6 am to 12 pm; shift #3: 12 pm to 6 pm; and shift #4: 6 pm to 12 am. Shifts 1, 2, 3, and 4 require 40, 30, 50, and 20 workers, respectively. Workers whose two shifts are consecutive are paid $20/hour; workers whose two shifts are not consecutive are paid $25/hour. APD would like to formulate an LP model to minimize the cost of meeting the daily workforce demands. Define the decision variables and state the objective function for the LP model. Note: do not need to specify the constraints.
