Linearity Properties. Consider the following three differential equations: Differential equation A: y' + p(t)y = 0 Differential equation B: y' + p(t)y = q (t) Differential equation C: y' + p(t)y² = g(t) Let ya(t) be a solution to differential equation A, y(t) be a solution to differential equation B, and ye(t) a solution to differential equation C. (a) Classify each differential equation as linear or non-linear. In the case that the differential equation is linear, classify it as homogeneous or non-homogeneous. (b) Let k be any constant. Is kya (t) + y(t) a solution to differential equation B? Justify. (c) Find the solution to differential equation A and compare to the integrating factor µ(t) for the differential equation B. The general solution to differential equation B using integrating factors is y(t) = u(t) [S µ(t)q(t)dt +c]. Explain in the context of your answer to part (b). (d) Let k be any constant. Is kya (t) + y(t) a solution to differential equation C? (e) How does linearity or non-linearity of differential equation B vs. differential equation C affect the outcomes in part (b) and (d).
