Drinking water can be produced from the evaporation of saltwater and subsequent condensation of the generated steam. Aschematic of this process, which uses salt water effluent from thecondenser of a thermoelectric plant, shown in the figure below. Theflow rate of salt water at point 1 is 75 kg/s and at point 2 thesteam is in the saturated state. This steam is then condensed fromthe heat transfer to salt water. Note that it is necessary to use apump in the flow of drinking water, to increase the pressure to po,because the pressure used in the instantaneous evaporator is lessthan atmospheric pressure. Using the process variables shown in thefigure, assuming that the properties of salt water are the same asthose of pure water, that the ambient temperature is 20°C and thatthe equipment is adiabatic, determine the rate of generation ofirreversibility in the water throttling process salted.
