Consider the automobile cruise control system shown below (Ignore the disturbance). (a) Sketch the uncompensated-system root locus, and give the time constant of the complex roots (for K=1 ). (b) A phase-lead compensator, Gc(s)=s+8.525K(s+2.059), is designed for this system. Sketch the root locus for compensated system; and determine K such that the time constant is one-half that found in (a). (c) Also a PD compensator, Gc(s)=K(s+2.418), is designed for this system. Sketch the root locus for compensated system; and determine K such that the damping ratio is ζ=0.707 Note: Every detail of the ROOT LOCUS diagrams including points of breakaway from (or arrival at) the real axis, angle of departure from complex poles (or arrival to complex zeros), complete information about asymptotes such as the center of gravity of the poles are requested.
