I. OBJECTIVE
The primary objective of this assignment is to teach you how tocreate tables and forms in Microsoft Access. However, bycompleting this assignment, you will also be able to gain DBMSskills such as (1) backing up an Access file,(2) setting up table structures and field properties,(3) establishing table relationships, and you will gain familiaritywith DBMS concepts such as a. primary andforeign keys, b. one-to-many and many-to-many relationships, c. arelationship table (i.e., a bridge entity), d. referentialintegrity, and e. a REAL diagram, (4) creating single andmultiple-table forms, (2) entering data using forms, (5) insertingan OLE object—a graphic logo in this particular assignment, and (6)copy and paste forms and tables.
II. COMPANYBACKGROUND
Almost a year ago Tom Waren, owner of Waren Distributing, wasapproached about an idea for a new business venture by his twinsister Jill. Jill had been considering starting a VIDEOSHOPPING NETWORK show to distribute various products to retailcustomers. Jill wanted Tom to sell his products to hernew business Waren Unlimited at cost and in exchange Tom wouldreceive a 20% share of Waren Unlimited profits after oneyear. Jill started operations in July without Tom'sparticipation, but he decided to join with Jill inSeptember. Several cable television stations havebroadcast the program, which demonstrates name brand products andflashes a 1-800 number that viewers can dial to orderitems. Waren Unlimited's product pricing is verycompetitive as inventories are purchased in very large quantitiesdirectly from Waren Distributing and a number of othermanufacturers/distributors. Also, overhead is minimal incomparison to retail outlets.
This is a critical time in Waren Unlimited'sgrowth. National cable network time has recently beenpurchased and decisions need to be made on how to best use theexpensive national air-time. You have been asked todevelop some relational database tables Waren Unlimited can use tocollect data on operating activities. The data will beused to formulate future business plans.
Below you will find selected entities and relationship for WarenUnlimited. A complete database would consist of customerpayment records, inventory purchases, etc. and would involvecomplete interactions between all aspects of the database. However,these few tables shown below will provide a representative exposureto relational databases and provide you with the understanding ofhow to create and use tables.
