Phillip is a graduate student in the Department of Pharmacology. He is working with his mentor on testing the effects of a relatively new drug on the liver. He has completed several key studies for his PhD. His mentor passed suddenly of a heart attack. He was re-assigned to another senior faculty member in the department as a graduate student. This mentor monitored his work and helped him defend his thesis. When Phillip wanted to publish his experiments, the new mentor removed the deceased mentor's name from his publications and replaced it with his name. What are the issues that you see with this case? What should be the right thing to do? How can this be avoided?
