There are two cans of food are sitting on a kitchen counter. Thesame pressure is exerted on the table by each of the weights of thecans; however the cans are not identical and the densities of thecontents are not identical. The radius of can 1 is r1 = 0.035 m andthe radius of can 2 is r2 = 0.035 m. The density of can 1 is ρ1 =810 kg/m3, the density of can 2 is ρ2 = 930 kg/m3, and the heightof can 1 is h1 = 0.14 m.
Q1. Write an expression for thepressure P2 exerted on the table bycan 2 in terms its density, height, and gravity.
Hint for Q1: -
-Since the weight is not given, you will need to determine itusing other variables.-Use the equation, W = ρgV.-The volume of a cylinderis V = πr2h.-Noticethat V / A = h fora cylinder.-Use the same equation you found in part a, only with the correctvariables for can 2. P1 =ρ1 g h1
Q2: Write an expressionfor h2 in termsof ρ1, ρ2,and h1.
Hint for Q2: the answer isNOT h2 =( ρ1/ρ2 )/h1
Q3: Solve for h2 inmeters.
