Which route would you choose to feed each of the following
hospitalized patients? (NG, NJ, PEG, PEJ, surgical g-tube, surgical
j-tube)? (You may assume each is hemodynamically stable and
all other characteristics not listed are suitable for TF. If
TF is contraindicated based on information available, indicate ‘PN’
for parenteral nutrition or ‘p.o.’ to feed by mouth).
1. S/p MVA, unconscious x 3-5 days to date.
2. Active esophageal varices.
3. Gastric residuals >500 mls.
4. TF to continue > 30 days.
5. TF to continue > 30 days and high aspiration
risk
