Chapter 10 covers many important developmental issues in early
childhood.
The developing child is greatly influenced by the culture of the
family, opportunities for play, parenting styles and
discipline.
For this journal please answer these four questions.
1. Identify the four main styles of parenting and which of these
did you experience as a child?
2. What are the consequences of each style of parenting? Do you
agree with what the text supports as consequences?
3. Why is discipline important for young children?
(Remember discipline is about teaching children, not
physical punishment.)
4. Why is it OK for us to hear someone say "I spanked my
child" but not "I hit my child".
