Recent admit with 40% burn being fluid resuscitated.
Previously well-nourished, post-radical surgery head/neck
patient unable to take p.o.x 3 days, negative bowel sounds,
residuals =300 ml
Gunshot wound to the abdomen with multiple GI perforations 2
days ago and now with diffuse bowel ischemia.
Severe Peritonitis
Post-stroke patient evaluated by Speech Rx (aka Speech-Language
Pathology) and found to have significant swallow deficits, calorie
counts x 5 days show intake = 30% needs.
Chemotherapy patient with intractable vomiting unresponsive to
anti-emetics
28yo Cystic Fibrosis patient that has lost 12% body weight in 6
months. In-patient calorie counts show oral intake = 60%
needs x 3 days.
Mild-moderate Pancreatitis
Ileal obstruction
