This week we learned about the measures of Central Tendencies, i.e. the mean, the median, and the mode. Here is the SPSS output from a previous General Social Survey, reporting respondents' ideal number of children. Valid Save Missing Total 0 1 3 4 5 6 IDEAL NUMBER OF CHILDREN SEVEN AS MANY AS WANT Total IAP Frequency Percent 13 16 506 240 76 15 2 2 135 1005 495 1500 19 1.1 33.7 16.0 5.1 1.0 1 1 9.0 67.0 33.0 100.0 Valid Percent 1.3 1.6 50.3 23.9 7.6 1.5 2 2 13.4 100.0 Cumul Percent 1.3 29 53.2 77.1 84.7 86.2 86.4 86.6 100.0 Discuss a few findings from this table. For example: How many people were surveyed? What is the median? What is the mean? (Remember that these are based on valid responses only). Given your findings, is the distribution symmetrical, positively skewed, or negatively skewed? What would you say is the ideal number of children based on this output, and why?
