The annual maxima flood flows for a certain river at one of itsgauging stations has a mean of 36m3/s and a standarddeviation of 16m3/s. Assuming the flood peaks forthis station fit a Gumbel distribution, estimate the magnitudes ofthe median and the 100 year flood flows for the site and theseverity of 1979 flood flow of 60m3/s recorded at thestation.
