(a) An economic model has been developed for the operating cost of a furnace in which the slag-metal reaction is critical. The annual cost (C) for the furnace operation is given by C = 10¹3 L³T² + 100L² + A × 10-111²T4 where L is the characteristic length of the furnace in metres [m], T is the temperature in Kelvin [K] and A is a constant parameter. Determine values of L and 7 that minimise the annual cost using geometric programming method. Use the value of A according to the first letter of your family name, as shown in the following table.
