A production supervisor at a major chemical company must determine which of two catalysts, catalyst XA or catalyst ZB, m

Post by answerhappygod »

A production supervisor at a major chemical company mustdetermine which of two catalysts, catalyst XA or catalyst ZB,maximizes the hourly yield of a chemical process. In order tocompare the mean hourly yields obtained by using the two catalysts, the supervisor runs the process using each catalyst for tenone-hour periods. The resulting yields (in kg per hour) for eachcatalyst are given in the table below.
Assuming that all other factors affecting yields of the processhave been held as constant as possible during the test runs, itseems reasonable to regard the ten observed yields for eachcatalyst as a random sample of all possible yields for the givencatalyst.
Complete the following tasks manually, i.e., with your handcalculator and the relevant statistical tables.
A Production Supervisor At A Major Chemical Company Must Determine Which Of Two Catalysts Catalyst Xa Or Catalyst Zb M 1

(a) Use the sample data to find out whether the yieldpopulations of the two catalysts have different variances. Useα=0.05
State the null and alternative hypotheses and the decision rule, calculate the test statistic, make a statistical decision and drawyour conclusion. Show the details of your manual calculations. Whatassumptions are required by the test you have just performed? Arethese assumptions likely satisfied?
(b) Do these data provide sufficient evidence at the 5%significance level to indicate that the population mean of theyields obtained by using catalyst XA is larger than the populationmean of the yields obtained by using catalyst ZB?

Please provide detailed manual steps and explanations arerequired in the question.
