According to the American Cancer Society, in 1974-1976 the five- year survival rate for all races was 50%. This means that 50% of the people who were diagnosed with cancer were still alive 5 years later. These people could still be undergoing treatment, could be in remission or could be disease-free. Study Design: To determine if the survival rates are improving, data will be gathered from people who have been diagnosed with cancer at least 5 years before the start of this study. The data that will be collected is whether the people are still alive 5 years after their diagnosis. The data will be categorical, that is the people will be put into one of two categories, survive or did not survive. Suppose the medical records of 100 people diagnosed with cancer are examined.
