5.2 A stream of air is moved over a flat plate during an experiment to measure velocity profiles at the trailing edge of the plate. The boundary layer was found to be fully developed above the plate with a thickness of 5 cm. The air density was 1.27 kg/m³, its viscosity 1.3x10 kg/m-s, and the undisturbed velocity was 20 m/s. Develop expressions that can be used to determine; a) The boundary layer thickness b) The skin-friction coefficient per unit width Hence calculate the following c) The length of the turbulent boundary layer d) The drag force on the plate per meter span (5 marks) (5 marks) V (5 marks) (5 marks) Assume the boundary layer extends to the leading edge of the plate, and that the ½ equation 8% = 0.465 x + C applies; where 'C' is a constant that depends on the distance 'x' from the leading edge, U is the velocity of the undisturbed flow and 8 is the boundary layer thickness.
