The AISI 1040 cold drawn steel bar shown in the figure issubjected to a fully inverted axial load ranging from -12 kN to 28kN. Estimate the factor of safety against fatigue, based on theachievement of infinite life and the factor of safety againstcreep. If infinite life is not predicted, estimate the number ofcycles to failure. use the modified Goodman criterion, the Gerbercriterion, and the ASME-elliptical criterion.
