The following information is given for the horizontal alignment of an urban two-lane highway (one lane in each direction); Design speed = 120[km/h] Maximum superelevation rate = 8[%] Coefficient of side friction = 0.12 Station of Point of Curvature (PC) = 5+350[m] Station of Point of Intersection (PI) = 5+490[m] Width of a lane = 3.65[m] Normal Crown slope = 2.5[%] a. Determine the required radius of the horizontal curve measured along the centreline of the roadway. [5 marks = 15 minutes] b. If the superelevation is attained by rotating the roadway about the centreline, determine the total superelevation transition length. Additional information is given in Appendix 2. [5 marks = 15 minutes] c. Determine the Stations at the beginning and end of superelevation runoff (on the side of the PC only), assuming one-third of the runoff length lies in the horizontal curve and two-third lies in the straight section of the roadway. [5 marks = 10 minutes]
