Q3 (5 Points): A tensile test was performed on an initially 0.40" diameter rod composed of a material that is linear elastic until fracture. During this test, it was observed that at a longitudinal strain of 0.002, a 0.055% reduction in the rod diameter occurred. The modulus of elasticity for this material is 18,000 ksi. a) Calculate the Poisson's ratio for this material. b) If a separate test was performed on an initially 0.35" diameter rod of the same material, what would be the predicted diameter of the rod when the longitudinal stress in the rod was 30.0 ksi? c) Another tensile test was performed on an initially 1.4" diameter rod of the same material. During this test, a 0.0032" reduction in the diameter of the bar was observed right before it fractured. Calculate the modulus of resilience for this material. (Hint: Be careful with strain units.)
