A shaft is connected to a co-axial shaft G by a single plate clutch as shown in Fig Q11, with two pairs of friction surfaces whose outer and inner diameters are 130 mm and 59 mm respectively. The total axial load on the clutch is 414 N and the coefficient of friction is 0.3. Shaft G carries a pinion, P, which is in mesh with a spur wheel, S, on a parallel shaft, H. The masses and radii of gyration of the three shafts, F, G and H, with attached masses ie gears or clutch plates, are 12.5 kg, 80 mm; 21 kg, 87 mm; 36 kg, 121 mm respectively. The ratio of gear speeds between P and Sie Ns/Np is 0.40 (N, is the rotational speed of S, and Np is the rotational speed of P). Determine the minimum time in seconds in which the speed of H can be raised from 500 rev/min to 1000 rev/min by a torque applied to shaft F. Assume 'uniform wear' on the clutch surfaces. Give your answer to 2 dp. F Fig Q11 S P H
