2. A ground profile consists of 3 m of silty sand of density p = 2.0 Mg/m² overlying 12 m of clay with p = 1.6 Mg/m3 which is underlain by 5 m of gravel with p = 2.3 Mg/m² and then rock. The ground water table is 1.5 m below the ground surface. Assume that the density of the silty sand is the same above and below the water table. Calculate the total vertical stress, pore water pressure and effective vertical stress at depths of 0, 3, 15, and 20 m. Draw the soil profile and the three stresses side-by-side.
