For a compound with a mass of 72 m/z (MS and IR indicate only the presence of C-C & C-H bonds) determine the molecular formula. Upload your formula and your calculations. Hints: This is discussed in the video conference. You will not find it in the textbook. Use the molecular mass of carbon to calculate the potential number of carbons in the formula. Determine from the masses, the remaining mass of hydrogen. Check to see if your formula fits that of an alkane (CnH2n+2). If necessary, convert 1 C to 12 H in your formula. Check your work again.
