When ethane (C2H6C2H6) reacts with chlorine (Cl2Cl2), the mainproduct is C2H5ClC2H5Cl; but other productscontaining ClCl, such as C2H4Cl2C2H4Cl2, are alsoobtained in small quantities. The formation of these other productsreduces the yield of C2H5ClC2H5Cl.
A.Calculate the theoretical yield of C2H5ClC2H5Cl when125 gg of C2H6C2H6 reacts with233 gg of Cl2Cl2, assumingthat C2H6C2H6 and Cl2Cl2 react only toform C2H5ClC2H5Cl and HClHCl.
B. Calculate the percent yield of C2H5ClC2H5Cl ifthe reaction produces 181 gg of C2H5ClC2H5Cl.
