READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE This week we are studying arguments asthey appear in ordinary language and how to put those argumentsinto standard form so that we can analyze the type of argumentbeing presented. In order to practice this skill, please select apublished article or essay in which the author presents anargument. You MUST include the title of the article you have chosenin the title of your discussion post. No duplicate articles will beallowed. Students who choose an article chosen by another studentwill be asked to redo their initial post. The first student to postwith the article in the title "claims" that article. In yourinitial post, include the following elements: In one paragraph, summarize your article and directly quote the paragraph orsentence(s) where the argument appears. Put the argument intostandard form. Include APA citation(s) and a reference for thearticle you selected
. :: EXAMPLE: The sentences in the second paragraph are relatedto the conclusion. The first sentence, "Declaring bankruptcy is asbad for your credit score as a foreclosure" looks like it isdirectly related to the 'bad credit score' in the conclusion. Iwould consider this the first premise. The second sentence, "Anyonewith a foreclosure will have a bad credit score for years" had theterm 'foreclosure' that is also found in what we are calling thefirst premise. The third sentence, "Because of this, anyone with abankruptcy will have a bad credit score for years as well" isrelated to the first premise as well. Putting this in standardform, you would get: P1 - Declaring bankruptcy is as bad for yourcredit score as a foreclosure. P2 - Anyone with a foreclosure willhave a bad credit score for years. P3 - Because of this, anyonewith a bankruptcy will have a bad credit score for years as well. C- When Sue was forced to sell her home because of bankruptcy, shewill have a bad credit score.
