3. a) An important problem in communications is the efficient representation of data generated by a discrete source. Table Q3(a) shows a set of symbols with their respective probabilities. Analyse the set of symbols to identify the respective binary code for each symbol in the table. [10 marks) c) Alphanumeric data are entered into a computer from a remote terminal through a voice-grade telephone channel. The channel has a bandwidth of 3.4kHz and output signal to noise ratio of 27.09 dB. The terminal has a total of 256 symbols. Assume that the symbols are equiprobable and the successive transmissions are statistically independent. Calculate the maximum symbol rate (baud rate) for which error -free transmission over the channel is possible. [8 marks
