Each question is worth 25 marks Question 4 a) An open-loop system is modelled using the following 2nd order ordinary differential equation: A unit step input is used to model the reference, where initially the proportional control gain value takes a value of 15. Assume negative unity feedback, i.e., an ideal sensor. Determine the following for the closed-loop control system properties: i. Transfer function form ii. Natural frequency, damping ratio and damped natural frequency iii. Rise time() iv. Settling time within a 10% region (15 marks) b) Based on part a), sketch the system output. Compare the system output to the reference and comment on the steady state error (SSE) and the system response related to the above system performance criteria (SPC). The requirements of the closed-loop control system are to achieve the following system response: Zero SSE Rise time of 1 seconds Setting time (10%) of 0.7 seconds Comment on the further control method that could be used to ensure the closed-loop control system requirements are achieved.
