Q3. A governor is a speed control device that uses the angular speed of two weighted objects to close a valve. Two spheres of mass 3 kg are attached to rigid arms of negligible mass and length 0.1 m. The vertical movement of these arms closes a valve that regulates the speed of the shaft. When the angle between the arms and the shaft rises to 60°, the valve closes fully. When the central shaft spins, the spheres orbit with uniform circular motion at the same angular speed as the shaft. a) Calculate the angle between the shaft and the weighted arms when the central shaft spins at 100 RPM. (6) (1) b) Determine the tension in the arms at this speed of rotation. c) Determine the angular speed of the shaft at the moment the valve is closed. Give your answer in RPM. (3) (10 marks)
