The results of a study by the Environmental Fund ManagementAgency and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in 2021stated that Indonesia is the largest producer of electronic wastein Southeast Asia with a volume of 1.6 million tons of waste peryear. The volume of e-waste is expected to continue to increase andmore than 90% is collected informally and is not environmentallyfriendly. This will seriously endanger the environment and publichealth because the waste contains hazardous and toxic materials. Toreduce this negative impact, the study recommends (i) imposing taxor retribution for the purchase of any electronic goods and (ii)providing subsidies to industries and businesses that manageelectronic waste in an environmentally friendly manner.
