Each has its own characteristics, capabilities, application, benefits and limitations. Businesses of all types, in all markets, use one or more of these analytic approaches to assist in solving business issues and making strategic decisions.

Sabermetrics is the specialized analysis of baseball through objective evidence, especially baseball statistics that measure in-game activity. The term is derived from the acronym SABR, which stands for the Society for American Baseball Research.
Billy Beane and Paul DePodesta of the Oakland A’s took an analytical, statistical, sabermetric approach to assembling their team, picking players based on qualities that defied conventional wisdom and the beliefs of many baseball scouts and executives.
Using this analytic approach, the 2000 Oakland A’s became the first team in AL history to win 20 games in a row.
