Do you agree or disagree to the following paragraph? Explainwhy
No I don't think it's possible for a third party to emerge inthe United States. Democratic and Republican candidates areautomatically placed on the ballot in all states, howeverthird-party candidates typically must collect thousands ofsignatures on petitions only to be placed on the ticket. The stateand federal governments, which establish election regulations, aremade up of elected Democratic and Republican politicians who have astrong incentive to maintain the current duopoly. Third-partycandidates sometimes encounter financial challenges since a partymust have obtained at least 5% of the vote in the previous electionto qualify for government subsidies. Some individuals join thirdparties because the party's candidate has a compelling personality. When the head of a party departs, the party often dissolves, as theReform Party did in the mid-1990s. The Reform Party, established byRoss Perot after his first presidential effort in 1992, served asPerot's base for his 1996 candidacy. However, once Perot opted notto run again, the Reform Party's political power plummetedsubstantially. The party split in 2000 over former Republican PatBuchanan's candidacy. Neither Buchanan nor his Reform Partyopponent received many votes, and the Reform Party has essentiallyvanished from the national spotlight.
