Foxconn has decided to install up to 1 millionrobots in their factories over the next 3 years in order to addressthe employee suicide rates their company image has been tarnishedwith. Other than that, their shift towards automation will surelygreatly benefit them in the long term as while automation may haveexpensive upfront payments, its long term benefits outweigh thesecosts. They are not only doing this for their reputations sake, butalso because it makes sense from an economical and financial pointof view. As Foxconn announces their decision to shift intoautomation, the companies that work with the factory are faced witha new three way dilemma: should they outsource from a new laborfactory, stick with Foxconn and their soon to be automated factory,or should they just make their own automation/labor processthemselves? Each choice has their own benefits and drawbacks andmaking a decision like this will surely have many long termramifications.
What are the short term and long term objectives of thiscase?
