A researcher was interested in determining if the energy conservation practices of college students could be predicted from their participation in a training program, consumer attitudes, and gender. The following data were collected from a random sample of 30 students: Energy Conservation Scale (ECS) 50 50 30 38 41 15 20 15 45 25 45 50 22 48 40 30 38 12 12 15 10 45 24 34 49 28 25 10 10 50 Participation in a Training Program No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes No Yes Consumer Attitude Scale (CAS2) 30 46 45 36 30 15 38 50 37 37 47 29 36 36 37 14 48 38 18 25 36 29 26 27 25 50 26 38 10 30 Gender male female male female male female male female male female male female male female male female male female male female male female male female male female male female male male
8. What is the dependent variable? Is it a categorical or continuous variable? What is (are) the categorical predictors? What is the dummy coding for each categorical predictor? What is (are) the continuous predictor(s)? 9. Use SAS to conduct the regression analysis for the following question: Predict Energy Conservation Scores (ECS) using Participation in a Training Program. a. Attach your SAS code and output. b. Based on SAS output, write the predicted equation for this analysis (unstandardized coefficient). Interpret the intercept and the slope in the equation for the predictor variable. c. 10. Use SAS to conduct the regression analysis for the following question: Predict Energy Conservation Scores (ECS) using Consumer Attitude, Gender, and their interaction (note: If the interaction is not significant, take the interaction predictor out and re-run SAS again). a. Attach all the SAS code and output. b. Based on SAS output, write the general predicted equation for the analysis and the specific predicted equation for each group in the analysis (unstandardized coefficient). c. Interpret the two partial slopes for consumer attitude and gender. 11. Draw the graph to represent the two specific predicted equations.
