Scenario: A 45-year-old male with a history ofhypertension and chronic kidney disease has arrived at the clinicfor a follow-up appointment with his nephrologist. The patient’skidney disease was treated conservatively with drug therapy anddiet up until 6 weeks ago, but then it was determined that thepatient’s uremia could no longer be adequately managed in thatmanner. A peritonealcatheter was placed a month ago and the patient has been using anautomated peritoneal dialysis system at home since then.
