1. This fossil wood is now very heavy and so hard that a knife will not scratch it. 2. This fossil resembles the shell of a clam, but it is smooth like the inside of a clam, not textured like the outside. 3. In life, this productid brachiopod had a shell made of calcite. When acid was used to dissolve the limestone around the fossil, the fossil did not fizz or dissolve.
