You want to determine if watching a video of a comedy with a laugh track is more enjoyable than watching without it. Subjects will be recruited and randomly assigned to one of two groups: Those in the control group will watch the video without the laugh track, and those assigned to the treatment group will watch the same video with the sound of a 50-person audience included in the soundtrack. Each participant will watch the video individually; no others will be present in the room. Immediately following the video, each participant will be asked to rate how enjoyable the show was on a scale of 1 to 5 (1= not very enjoyable, 5= very enjoyable). 1) What are your null and alternative hypotheses? 2) Is your hypothesis one-tailed or two-tailed?
