Tony Stark, Hank Pym, and Peter Parker have decided to taketheir famous super-suits and make them available to retailcustomers. Yes, soon you too will be able to buy an Iron Man suit,an Ant-Man suit, or a Spider-Man suit! (While customers will stillbe able to fly, shrink, and shoot webs, for their safety and thesafety of others, no weaponry will be included.) They are openingup their flagship store in Vancouver, and have named it Ant SpiderIron Super Suits, or ASIS2 for short. ASIS2 will sell suits, domaintenance on suits, and provide parts that customers can use todo their own maintenance and modding. They will start with onelocation in Vancouver, but they have plans to expand eventually toLos Angeles, New York, and Wakanda.
ASIS2 has three departments as described above: sales,maintenance, and parts. There is also a finance department to keeptrack of customer payments. Each department has a manager, andthere is a general manager over the entire store as well. In thedifferent departments, the managers oversee four salesrepresentatives, two service representatives, two partssalespeople, two finance agents, and some support staff.
After hearing of the excellent reputation of Kwantlen’s INFOstudents, Tony, Hank and Peter have decided to hire you to buildthe custom information system for their business.
In your first meeting, Tony met with you and provided anoverview of the business’ processes and staff members. Heidentified the managers within the company: Pepper Potts is generalmanager and oversees all operations, Thor Odinson is the salesmanager, Hope van Dyne is the service manager, Quentin Beck is theparts manager, and Natasha Romanov is the finance manager. StephenStrange is the office manager, overseeing the support staff.Stephen’s employees include Mordo, who looks after human resources,Wong, who looks after payroll, and America Chavez, who looks afteremployee benefits. You should include yourself as an ITadministrator working for Stephen.
The sales department has four sales reps: Valkyrie, Mantis,Groot, and Drax. The maintenance department has two servicerepresentatives who set up appointments and look after customers:Luis and Dave. The parts salespeople areNed Leeds and MichelleJones-Watson, and they take orders for parts from customers. Thefinance agents are Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova.
Each of the named people in the above section should have theirown workstation, and their own user account. There are also twogeneric “Technician” accounts that service technicians can use toaccess service requests and records, with workstations for eachtech. The company also has a workstation for the company’sreceptionist, who reports to Stephen Strange (the receptionist usesa generic “Receptionist” account).
The sales department, maintenance department, and financedepartment have one printer each. Stephen’s administrativedepartment has two pooled printers. Storage for the entire businesswill eventually be provided using a NAS or SAN system, but for thepurposes of the project all shared folders will be stored on themain server.
Note that while the owners are considered part of theorganization, they do not work in the business on a day-to-daybasis, so they do not have user accounts or workstations in thesystem.
Internet access is via a broadband connection with a localInternet service provider. Guest WiFi is provided for customerconvenience, but this does not need to be implemented in yourproject.
Part 1: Organization Chart and Price Chart Due: July5
For Part 1 you will provide an overview of the business, definethe network’s hardware components, and determine approximate costsfor the information system.
• Create an organization chart for ASIS2, showing all themanagers and their staff in their proper relationships. MicrosoftWord has a tool for doing this, but you can use any tool you wish.The free website app.diagrams.net has very flexible tools that letyou add shapes and label them simply by clicking them and typingthe desired text.
• Create a price list that includes prices for all the hardwarefor the system, including computers, printers, network storagedevices, and networking hardware such as routers and/or switches.You will not have to price out cabling, power supplies, and thelike, but you should include prices for the operating system andany software and client access licenses (CALs) required to useWindows Server. Make sure you include URLs for each item’s price,so the prices can be confirmed after you submit your work.
